Hawaii or BUST - Less than 15wks Away

Eliza & Tim's wedding in Hawaii is just 108 days away, so now is the time to start saving, if you haven't already. Airfare can be pricey, but there certainly are some deals to be had. Mouse was recommending flying into somewhere on the west coast, then taking advantage of reasonable fares through airlines that fly from Vegas or Cali directly to the islands. There are lots of Condo opportunities through Mouse/Eliza/Tom's recommendations, and Novemeber is one of their "off-seasons". I'll post more of those later on tonight. So figure at maximum a budget of $1,000 each, or maybe less per couple. That's saving $10/day for next 108 days. I already cut out my weekly beer purchase since July 4th to begin saving.

T&C live in Paia, Maui and that's where most of the clan has already rented a condo. Here's some condo choices we've found:
Vacation Rentals by Owner - Recommended by Kate's friend Diana
Kihei Maui Vacations - Frommer's Book Recommendation by Mouse
Condominium Rentals Hawaii - Frommer's Book Recommendation by Mouse
Noelani Condominium Resort - Recommendation by Mouse "Noelani a 2br condo $237/night right on the water."

Wailers Return to Hampton Beach

This Friday night, 07/22/05, at Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom, the Wailers return for an 8pm showtime. Tix are $19.50 adv and $21.50 (age 18 and over), call 603.868.7300 or visit Where the Beach Meets the Stars...

Come see three of the original members Aston "Familyman" Barrett, Al Anderson and Earl "Wya" Lindo. This show is the bomb, probably have seen them 4 or 5 times and everytime is a completely energizing experience (every show I've seen has been 90 minutes non-stop with no intermission). The lead singer looks just like Bob.

"Recognized throughout the world as the architect of reggae, 'Familyman' created a music genre the rose to world domination when he teamed up with Bob Marley as his bassist and musical director. 'Familyman' and his band, The Wailers, have continued to tour the world leaving no doubt of the musical legacy he and Bob Marley created."

SPACE SHUTTLE ONLINE
NASA has signed innovative agreements with Yahoo! Inc. and Akamai Technologies,
Inc. to help bring the Space Shuttle's return to flight mission (STS-114) to
millions of Internet users through the NASA Web portal.

NASA's agreement with Yahoo! is one of the agency's first online media
partnerships. Under the terms of the agreement, Yahoo! will provide a
co-branded Windows Media Player that will stream the mission's official
online video on the Web sites of both NASA and Yahoo!.

"We're very excited to be able to offer this expanded coverage to the public,"
said NASA's Associate Administrator for Space Operations, William Readdy.
"Internet users will be able to follow every event from launch through
landing, including the spacewalks. Thanks to this agreement, they'll be able
to do so at no additional cost to the taxpayers."

Welch Fluorocarbon Teflon Bags are heading to Antarctica

July 06, 2005 Article courtesy of Clip-n-Seal

British Antarctic Survey
Clip-n-Seals are heading to Antarctica, as part of the British Antarctic Survey (BAS), to be used in a custom Teflon irradiation chamber. Clip-n-Seal, in partnership with Welch Fluorocarbon, developed a custom, extruded Clip-n-Seal for BAS. BAS chose Clip-n-Seal because it maintains an air- and watertight seal in extreme temperatures. We call the BAS custom version the Cold Mondo.

That time that I spilled a giant bag of peas across the kitchen floor and decided that we needed a Clip-n-Seal for the freezer, I had no idea that 3 years later, Clip-n-Seals would be sailing to the Antarctic. The zipper-style closures used in large freezer bags, like those from Costco, often fail. Many of our customers use Clip-n-Seals in the freezer to seal their food. The custom Cold Mondo was extruded with a tighter clamp to ensure a seal at temperatures that dip below -20 °C. It's similar to the custom version we created for Tatura Diary in Australia.

BAS is a component of the Natural Environment Research Council. Based in Cambridge UK, it has, for almost 60 years, undertaken the majority of Britain's scientific research on and around the Antarctic continent. It now shares that continent with scientists from around thirty countries.

In search of a Web-based Calendar

Trumba's wizard guides you through the process of selecting a template and publishing your OneCalendar to the Web.

Trumba's OneCalendar Keeps You Organized

Web-based calendar application lets you see your work commitments and home events all at once.

Posted Wednesday, June 22, 2005

Tired of constantly updating two separate calendars with your work and home appointments? With Trumba's OneCalendar, you can kiss that annoyance good-bye. This Web-based application lets you create a group or personal calendar that can sync with Outlook. So if you use Outlook for business scheduling, you can use OneCalendar to see family activities and work commitments all at once.

I tested a free beta version of OneCalendar; the final version is expected this summer and will cost $40 per year (with a two-month free trial period). So why pay, when you can use Yahoo's syncing calendar for free? I found Trumba's product easier to use, better looking, and more flexible.

Once you have set up your personal OneCalendar, you can either add events to it manually or import existing schedules from Outlook, Yahoo, or Apple ICal calendars.

You may also share your OneCalendar, with your significant other, childcare provider, anyone. (You can mark individual events as private.) Publishing a calendar to the Web for a group is simple, too: A four-step wizard guides you through the process and takes less than 10 minutes.

Your personal OneCalendar has no ads, and you decide whether your group calendar will display them. This is valuable for anyone who is tired of online dating pitches and the other baggage that travels with free Web calendars.

For personal and group calendaring, this Web-based tool has an appealingly simple look and shows no ads.

Charlie & the Chocolate Factory

Charlie & the Chocolate Factory
Most nights in the Bucket home, dinner is a watered-down bowl of cabbage soup, which young Charlie gladly shares with his mother and father and both pairs of grandparents. Every night, the last thing Charlie sees from his window is Willy Wonka's great factory, and he drifts off to sleep dreaming about what might be inside. For nearly fifteen years, no one has seen a single worker going in or coming out of the factory, or caught a glimpse of Wonka himself, yet, great quantities of chocolate are still being made and shipped all over the world. One day Willy Wonka makes a momentous announcement. He will open his famous factory and reveal "all of its secrets and magic" to five lucky children who find golden tickets hidden inside five randomly selected Wonka chocolate bars. Nothing would make Charlie's family happier than to see him win but the odds are very much against him as they can only afford to buy one chocolate bar a year, for his birthday. One by one, news breaks around the world about the children finding golden tickets and Charlie's hope grows dimmer. But then, something wonderful happens. Charlie finds some money on the snowy street and takes it to the nearest store for a Wonka Whipple-Scrumptious Fudgemallow Delight. There, under the wrapper is a flash of gold. It's the last ticket. Charlie is going to the factory! The family decides that Grandpa Joe, who used to work in the factory, should be the one to accompany Charlie on this adventure. Once inside, Charlie is dazzled by one amazing sight after another. Wondrous gleaming contraptions of Wonka's own invention churn, pop, and whistle, crews of merry Oompa-Loompas mine mountains of fudge beside a frothy chocolate waterfall, a hundred trained squirrels on a hundred tiny stools shell nuts for chocolate bars, and Wonka himself pilots an impossible glass elevator that rockets every which way you can think of through the fantastic factory. Almost as intriguing as his fanciful inventions is Willy Wonka. He thinks about nothing but candy--except, every once in a while, when he seems to be thinking about something that happened long ago, that he can't quite talk about. Meanwhile, the other children prove to be a rotten bunch, and one by one, their greedy personalities lead them into all kinds of trouble that force them off the tour. When only Charlie is left, Willie Wonka reveals the final secret, the absolute grandest prize of all: the keys to the factory itself.

Wasted Time at Work Costing Companies Billions

A recent article from www.salary.com states that "According to a new survey by America Online and Salary.com, the average worker admits to frittering away 2.09 hours per 8-hour workday, not including lunch and scheduled break-time. As a matter of practice, companies assume a certain amount of wasted time when determining employee pay."

How much time are you wasting???

Just for any of those curious about my time wasting, this particular piece was a part of my multitasking efforts. Heard about it on the radio, jumped to the website at break time, and my super quick typing/copy-paste/internet savvy skills means I can take advantage of my 15 minute morning break!!! :)

choo-choo, riding the Long Island Railroad into Penn Station...couldn't imagine better company!!!

Exploring Times Square isn't complete without paying homage to Doob's - Monument to Ralph Kramden (aka Jackie Gleason from The Honeymooners). What a cool piece, right at the entrance of the Port Authority Bus Terminal.

And for dinner, gotta hit the ZONE. Great call Uncle Doob, YOUR FAV!!! And too boot got to catch the sox on the big screen, even though Uncle Scott ruined any chance of getting booth seats after proclaiming we're Red Sox fans in Yankee country!!!

And of course, what night on town isn't complete without a treat for the sweet. MMMMmmm, Cold Stone Creamery is out of this world. Can you say Chocolate Ice Cream, fresh peanut butter, hot fudge in a waffle bowl, YUMMIE!!!
